Pet Wellness Care in Hickory
Thoughtful, partnership-driven preventive care for Hickory’s dogs and cats. The wellness visit isn’t just a checkbox — it’s where we get to know your pet, catch issues early, and build the foundation for a long, healthy life together.
A Whole-Pet Approach to Preventative Care
Most of what veterinary medicine can do for your pet happens before something goes wrong. Routine wellness visits give us the chance to track your dog or cat’s health over time, identify subtle changes before they become serious problems, and tailor a preventive care plan that actually fits your pet’s life, not a generic checklist that treats every patient the same way.
For most adult pets, we recommend an annual wellness exam. For seniors and pets with ongoing health concerns, we typically suggest twice-yearly visits, since dogs and cats age faster than we do, and a lot can change in twelve months.
What’s Included in Pet Wellness Care
A typical wellness visit at Springs Road covers:
Comprehensive physical exam: A nose-to-tail evaluation that includes weight, body condition, eyes, ears, mouth, skin, joints, and a check of internal systems through palpation and auscultation. We’ll also ask about behavior, appetite, energy, and anything you’ve noticed at home — your daily observations are often what tip us off to something worth looking into.
Vaccinations: Core vaccines protect against the most serious and common diseases. Lifestyle-based vaccines are recommended based on your pet’s specific risk factors: where they live, where they travel, and who they spend time with. We’ll never push a vaccine your pet doesn’t actually need.
Parasite prevention: Fleas, ticks, intestinal worms, and other parasites are easier (and far less expensive) to prevent than to treat. We carry a range of preventive options and can help you choose the one that fits your pet’s lifestyle and your household.
Heartworm testing and prevention: Heartworm disease is serious, expensive to treat, and entirely preventable. We recommend annual testing for dogs and year-round prevention for both dogs and cats, since mosquitoes don’t take winters off the way we’d like them to.
Microchipping: A microchip is a small, permanent form of ID that gives your pet the best chance of finding their way home if they’re ever lost. Quick to place, low-cost, and a one-time decision that can save heartbreak down the road.
Senior pet care: As your pet enters their senior years, their wellness needs shift. We recommend more frequent exams and routine diagnostics to monitor for age-related changes, so we can address them early and keep your pet comfortable.
Nutrition guidance: With so much conflicting information out there about pet food, we’re happy to help you cut through the noise and figure out what’s actually best for your pet.
