Pet Urgent Care in Hickory

When something’s wrong and it can’t wait, we’re here to help. Springs Road Animal Hospital offers same-day urgent care appointments for the dogs and cats of Hickory during our regular business hours.

Same-Day Care When Your Pet Needs It

Some things really can wait until next week’s wellness visit. A lot of things can’t. Sudden vomiting, a worsening limp, an ear that’s clearly bothering them, a wound that needs to be looked at, a sudden change in appetite or behavior — when something feels off and your gut tells you not to wait, we’d rather see your pet today than have you wonder all weekend.

During our regular hours, we keep room in the schedule for urgent cases. If you call and let us know your pet needs to be seen, we’ll work with you to get them in as quickly as possible. You’ll get the benefit of being seen by the veterinarians who already know your pet (or are about to), in the practice you trust, without the cost or chaos of an emergency hospital.

When to Call Us for Pet Urgent Care

If your pet is showing any of the following signs during our regular hours, please call us right away at (828) 256-2151:

  • Sudden or severe vomiting or diarrhea
  • Difficulty breathing or persistent coughing
  • Limping, swelling, or signs of pain
  • Wounds, bites, or visible injuries
  • Bleeding that doesn’t stop quickly
  • Sudden changes in appetite, energy, or behavior
  • Eye injuries or sudden vision changes
  • Difficulty urinating or straining in the litter box
  • Suspected ingestion of something toxic (food, plants, medications, household chemicals)

If you’re not sure whether your pet’s symptoms qualify as urgent, call us anyway. We’d rather hear from you and be able to talk it through than have you wait and worry.

What to Do for After-Hours Emergencies

Springs Road Animal Hospital is not a 24-hour facility. If your pet is experiencing an emergency outside of our regular business hours, please visit our After Hours Emergencies page for a list of trusted local emergency hospitals.

For suspected poisoning at any time of day or night, you can also contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435. Their trained toxicologists can advise you on the next steps based on your pet’s age, weight, and what they ingested.
