PRP Therapy

PRP therapy uses your pet’s own blood to deliver concentrated healing factors directly where they’re needed. Springs Road Animal Hospital performs this regenerative medicine treatment in-house to support tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and help dogs and cats with certain joint and musculoskeletal conditions move more comfortably.

When joint pain or injury starts getting in the way of your pet’s everyday life, platelet-rich plasma therapy may offer another way to support healing. PRP uses a concentrated portion of your pet’s own blood to encourage the body’s natural repair process.

We perform all PRP therapy in-house. We begin by drawing a small blood sample, then process it to concentrate the platelets. Those platelets contain natural growth factors that support tissue repair. We then inject the resulting PRP into the affected joint or area.

What to Expect From Your Pet’s PRP Therapy

PRP is generally performed as an outpatient procedure under light sedation. Joint injections are its most common use here, particularly for pets with osteoarthritis. Depending on your pet’s condition, PRP may be incorporated into a larger treatment plan alongside options such as:

  • Laser therapy
  • Adequan injections
  • Type II collagen supplements
  • Glucosamine/chondroitin supplements
  • Anti-inflammatory medications

For some pets who aren’t good candidates for long-term NSAID use, PRP may also offer another approach to managing discomfort.

Regenerative Care That Fits the Bigger Picture

PRP isn’t meant to replace traditional veterinary care. Instead, it gives us another tool to use when building a plan around your pet’s diagnosis, comfort, mobility, and lifestyle.

Our team will evaluate what’s causing the problem, talk with you about what you’re seeing at home, and explain whether PRP makes sense for your pet. We may also recommend combining it with other forms of pain management or laser therapy as part of a more comprehensive approach.

If arthritis, joint discomfort, or another musculoskeletal problem is slowing your pet down, talk with our team about whether PRP therapy could be part of their care plan.
